Are you an aspiring illustrator, a professional artist looking to expand your skill base or improve your skills with traditional media, or an art hobbiest with a lot of imagination looking to take a step into the world of the fantastic? Come spend six days this January in intense study and camaraderie with established industry professionals Tyler Jacobson, Lucas Graciano, Michael C. Hayes, and E. M. Gist. Immerse yourself in the world of illustration, and learn to make the images in your mind into a reality.
Each day of this six day workshop will run from 8am until 11pm (or later) and will include..
Daily lectures on storytelling, professionalism, career building, etc.
Daily demonstrations of painting from the model, idealization, creature design, etc.
1 on 1 instruction and assistance on your illustration from one of our award winning instructors.
When not working on your own illustration pull up a chair and watch one of the teachers work, and pick their brain with a round of “ask me anything”.

8-Day Watts Atelier Boot Camp with Instructors of Watts Atelier

Join the instructors of Watts Atelier for this rare opportunity to immerse yourself in 8 days of drawing and painting with these truly gifted instructors. We will cover a wide range of concepts including setting up the 4 palettes students should master to avoid major pitfalls, how to break down and study the masters in both painting and drawing, anatomy, gesture painting and even touch on landscape and still life. The emphasis will be on showing participants firsthand what designing and executing a training plan for the visual artist entails. This workshop will deliver practical exercises and advice that will communicate how working professionals got where they are and how you can as well. Come prepared for long days of intense learning, demonstrations and one-on-one instruction. Please note that Jeff Watts is taking a sabbatical and will not be teaching in this year’s workshop.

10-Day Rome Workshop, with Jeffrey Watts
July 9th-July 20th 2018
Join Jeffrey Watts in Rome for this exciting 10-day workshop. Students will be introduced to both the drawing and painting exercises Jeffrey R. Watts has developed and honed over the past 30 years at WattsAtelier of the arts in Encinitas Ca. The first 5 days will emphasize portrait and the second 5 days the Figure. Students can work on portrait the entire 10 days or Figure or 5 days of each. Jeff is known as one of the foremost authorities on the Reilly method and will walk the students through some of his most effective and tried methods for Gesture drawing/Painting, how to successfully paint from photo’s and Master Studies, as well as how to tackle the longer live model sessions. Emphasis will be placed on exploring these various modalities of study through structured exercises throughout the 10 days. Students can work on portrait the entire 10 days or Figure or 5 days of each. These exercises will help the students to start cultivating the confidence to further explore this most challenging of subjects on their own after returning home. Come prepared for Jeff’s intense one on one highly energetic and philosophic approach to one of his favorite subjects in both Paint and Charcoal. He prefers a direct style of teaching in which each student gets frequent work overs on their drawings and paintings as well as frequent class demonstrations. Level: Intermediate to advanced
