This class will focus on understanding the anatomy of the horse, from the basic construction of the equine to the specifics of the skeletal structure and musculature. Students will start off learning the basics of the equine form, solidifying their understanding of the construction of the horse through generalized abstractions. From there, students will delve into the specifics of anatomy and learn how to properly approach the skeletal structure and musculature. Students will learn how to locate and identify the bony landmarks and the major muscle masses of the horse, and work to incorporate these anatomical features in a way that enhances the three-dimensionality of the form in their drawings. Students will utilize and work from an array of reference to obtain their goals, including photographs, custom instructor diagrams, maquette sculptures, and museum-quality specimens. This course is primarily a drawing class, and students will need a sketchbook or drawing board, tracing paper, drawing supplies (pencils, pens, eraser) and a binder to accommodate the large number of handouts.

The Livestream Video Archive will be available for all livestream students until Sept 19th.
