Instructor Critiques for Full Participation Students will be uploaded for viewing approximately one week after each class.

This class will focus on a variety of costumes through two week poses. Students will have the choice of working on portraits-with hats and upper body clothing, or full costume figure paintings. We will work on drawing and lay-ins with our paint for the first week of each pose and build color and thicker layers of paint for the second week of each pose. Learn to paint an assortment of fabrics, surfaces, and genres!

The Livestream Video Archive will be available for all livestream students until Sept 19th.

Materials

  • Painting Grounds (Preferred Brand: Fredrix)
    • 9”x12” to 16”x20” (Please stay within these size perimeters.)
    • Canvas: Fredrix prestretched canvas: red or green label
    • Panels: Fredrix archieval canvas panels
  • Brushes (Preferred Brands: Robert Simmons Signet Bristles and Langnickel Sables)
    • An assortment of rounds, filberts and flats in sable and bristle.
    • Below is an assortment of recommended sizes in bristles and sables.
    • (Note: It is not necessary to have all of these sizes but a good idea to work towards getting them.)

Meadow Gist

Meadow Gist has studied and taught at Watts Atelier for the past 15 years. She began her art career in the corporate field painting displays and murals for a major retail chain. Her work has been exhibited as a finalist in the International Artist Magazine’s Still Lifes and Florals Competition 2006 and as a “Top 50” selection at Salon International 2007.
