This class will introduce students to painting through the water based medium of gouache. Expanding on the class from the last term, we will be working from portrait photo reference, most students should start with black and white and move to the 4 color Zorn Palette. This class is a great introduction to painting before moving into oil. This class focuses heavily on the tiling method: identifying shapes of value and color and placing them on the board in an attractive manner and with a specific shape.

Beginners to painting can use monochrome only paints (black and white) to make things easier and cut down on expenses. Intermediate students can use the four color Zorn palette.

When purchasing materials, note that you do not need every brush and size, just get a good variety of small, medium and large brushes.
