Developed by artist Frank Reilly, the abstraction, is essential to obtaining strong construction in the head and figure. In this class we will learn how to use this method to create better rhythms, balance, form, composition, and design in our drawings. This class will be an in depth class on how to better understand and utilize the abstraction when designing your drawings. We will explore simplifying anatomy, and learning to look for shape rather than detail. We will work from photos of the model. Instructor demonstrations and critiques are standard. This is a great class for all levels!

Brian Knox

Brian Knox has studied at Watts Atelier since 2012 and is currently working toward a career in illustration. After spending his first 2 years at the atelier focused on drawing fundamentals, he developed an intuitive understanding of basic shapes and the underlying forms of the human body. This makes him well suited for teaching the fundamentals of figure drawing. As a student he is currently focused on composition and painting while participating in the Watts Atelier student teacher program.
