We are extremely proud to announce the winners of our first annual Master Skill Building Challenge. This contest, open to all of our enrolled students, was made up of 6 individual, month-long challenges, and was designed to push participant’s skill sets in order to help them grow as representational artists. Each student’s final portfolio was then submitted to our jury and evaluated based on the displayed knowledge of the lessons, overall skill, and personal improvement over the course of the challenges.
Our jury, made up of special guest juror James Gurney, as well as Jeff Watts and the team of the Watts Atelier, had the amazingly difficult task of narrowing down the entries and selecting the finalists. After much deliberating, we are pleased to share with you the winners of our first annual Master Skill Building Challenge…
For showing a developed sense of maturity and taste in artistic decisions, and displaying a good sense of value, design, and edge work
For showing a good handling of surface texture and visual rhythms, as well as interesting directions in visual storytelling
For displaying accurate drawing and shape placement skills, and showing a strong sense of pose and balance
We would also like to take a moment to recognize our two honorable mentions, both of whom displayed wonderful skill progression over the course of the Challenge.
Congratulations to you all again for your hard work and dedication to your skills and and their continued growth! We’d like to take a moment to thank our jurors for their time, especially artist, illustrator, author, and all around fantastic painter and draftsman, James Gurney. Furthermore, we’d like to thank all of our wonderful students for making these challenges such a success and for allowing the Watts Atelier to be a part of your learning journey.
All the best, and Happy Studies!
-The Watts Atelier Team
