Figure Drawing is essential. It is a core foundation of being a great representative artist. Through figure drawing you will learn so much about the various techniques that we employ at the school, such as angle measurements, comparative measurement and plumb lines, anatomy and more. In this introductory figure drawing phase, get ready for the basics of navigating the human form. Brian will take you through gesture, structure and mass as is relates to the figure while introducing you to the Reilly method of figure drawing: showing how to utilize different rhythm lines and where to utilize them. Next, you will start to add structure to your figures, taking that initial gesture and making it three dimensional. The next series of demos will be adding light and shadow to the three dimensional forms and at the end of this course Brian will delve into what it takes to bring a figure drawing to a finish with two rendered demos.

Meet your instructor

Brian Knox

Brian Knox was a student and teacher at Watts Atelier for more than 15 years. Brian excels in teaching new students the fundamentals of head, figure and anatomical drawing. Focusing primarily on the Reilly Method, he has developed his own simple style to help effectively teach students who are new to technical drawing.
