Welcome to Structural Figure Drawing! In this course we will expand upon Figure Drawing Fundamentals. At Watts, we typically have three different stages of building up a figure drawing: Gesture, Structure and Mass. This course will take the second part, structure, and expand upon it. The goal will be gain a more in-depth understanding of the figure as its simple 3-dimensional shapes: boxes, cylinders and spheres. You will learn basic anatomical forms of each body part and how to lay them on top of the basic shapes as well as identify key anatomical overlaps that will aid you in developing structure. In the last lesson of this course you will use your knowledge that you have gained to take a figure drawing to a more rendered and shaded finish.

Meet your instructor

Brian Knox

Brian Knox was a student and teacher at Watts Atelier for more than 15 years. Brian excels in teaching new students the fundamentlas of head, figure and anatomical drawing. Foucsing primarily on the Reilly Method, he has developed his own simple style to help effectively teach students who are new to technical drawing.
